Language Arts Teacher 1.0 FTE Begins (September 2025 with summer onboarding)
Description
Harbor City International School (harborcityschool.org), a small, public charter school serving grades 7-12 in Duluth, MN, is seeking a licensed teacher to engage students in grades 7-12 (focus on 7-9) in Language Arts learning to meet and exceed state standards in an inclusive, small school setting focused on academic challenge, community engagement, creative expression, and global perspectives.
Ideal candidates are:

● Embrace and celebrate the unique social, emotional, and academic needs of middle school students through experiential, culturally responsive practices that build community and create hands-on learning experiences, fostering critical thinking, self-awareness, and confidence.
● Embrace the opportunity to build new programming within the framework of the existing high school program
Responsibilities include:
● Content development and delivery for Language Arts courses which include: 7th Grade ELA, 8th Grade ELA, 9/10 American Literature.
● Create a safe and inclusive environment for all students to engage in classroom and school activities
● Provide effective assessment and feedback to promote strong skills, knowledge, understandings, and application of language arts.
● Provide timely feedback to students and families
● Make decisions informed by a variety of assessment tools and data for instruction
● Differentiate learning experiences for all students and work with special education staff to provide student accommodations
● Communicate with students, families, and colleagues effectively
● Oversee an 7/8th grade advisory period focused on community building
● Teach 3 Symposium classes- short, special interest classes in January, May, and June
● Additional opportunities: club advisement, student travel, school leadership and development committees

Education Requirements
● BA in English, Literature, or relevant field
● Valid MN teaching license in Communication Arts and Literature 5-12
