Social Studies Teacher, Middle Grades 1.0 FTE (Begins fall 2025; paid summer training)

Harbor City International School (harborcityschool.org), a small, public charter school serving grades 7-12 in Duluth, MN, is seeking a licensed teacher to engage students in grades 7-12 (focus on 7-9) in social studies learning to meet and exceed state standards in an inclusive, small school setting focused on academic challenge, community engagement, creative expression, and global perspectives.

● Embrace the opportunity to build new programming within the framework of the existing high school program

Responsibilities include:
● Content development and delivery for social studies courses which include: 7th Grade US History, 8th Grade Global Studies, and 7-8 and 9-12 grade elective courses.
● Create an engaging, safe and inclusive environment for all students to engage in classroom and school activities
● Provide effective assessment and feedback to promote strong skills, knowledge, understandings, and application of the social studies
● Provide timely feedback to students and families
● Make decisions informed by a variety of assessment tools and data for instruction
● Differentiate learning experiences for all students and work with special education staff to provide student accommodations
● Communicate with students, families, and colleagues effectively
● Oversee an advisory period focused on community building
● Teach 3 Symposium classes- short, special interest classes in January, May, and June
● Additional opportunities: club advisement, student travel, school leadership and development committees

Salary:
1.0 FTE starting salary is $42,750

Education Requirements
● BA in Social Studies Education, History, or relevant field
● Valid MN teaching license in Social Studies for grade 5-12
